What Prayer Means

Prayer is a six letter word with a very powerful meaning. It is an act where a person can communicate with God. Through prayer, you can talk with Him and let Him know what is inside your heart. It also develops your relationship with God. Prayer is “an active effort to communicate with deity or spirit either to offer praise, to make a request, confess sins, or simply to express one’s thoughts and emotions.”(Available Online: http://www.en.wikipedia.org) In other words, prayer is a connection between the Creator which is God and his creation specifically us, human beings. Prayer has power that could transform the life of everybody.

When performing prayer, it shows that there’s a desire to be in contact with God. We are letting Him come into our hearts. “It is not our prayer that moves Jesus, it is Jesus who moves us to pray… Before we call, He graciously makes known to us what gift He has decided to impart to us. He knocks in order to move us by prayer to open the door and accept the gift which He has already appointed for us. (Isaiah 65:24, KJV)… God says, ‘If any man open the door, I will come into him.’ ’’ (World Network of Prayers- Abiding In Him, 13) Our Creator just needs a way in or an access to our lives. If we just let Him come in He is willing to enter in.

Also from the World Network of Prayers – Abiding in Him book gives some deeper insights on the secret of prayer and these are: A.) Prayer is something deeper than words. It is present in the soul before it has been formulated in words. And it abides in the soul after the last words of prayer have passed over our lips. B.) Prayer is an attitude of our hearts and mind. Prayer is a definite attitude of our hearts toward God, an attitude which He in heaven immediately recognizes as prayer, as an appeal to His heart.
